Joe Brumm on Leaving “difficult decision this” Bluey
Joe Brumm, the brain behind Bluey, said he was making this bittersweet decision to leave after its final extended episode for the season: Ⅲ mouthfuls again! Brumm said, “I always promised myself that if I couldn’t do any new season as good as the last then I wouldn’t keep making it.” Now out of the small screen series, this next project is all that occupies his attention.
“At any rate, I think I will now be doing the movie,” said Brumm. “Although it can look a bit rash, in fact I believe this is the right time.”
What We Know About the Upcoming Movie Bluey
The Bluey movie brings back familiar voices, including Melanie Zanetti as Chilli, Bluey and Bingo’s mum, and David McCormack as Bandit, their dad. For the movie Brumm began with an old idea that he revisited. During the process of turning, it into a producing script, he likes it. The small screen became the stage on which his fans found him, and over the last three years Brumm has brought these characters under our gaze. Features that appear in newspapers now are based upon the same Bluey character who once filled people’s televisions.
Produced by Amber Naismith (Happy Feet) and co-directed by Richard Jeffery (Bluey series producer), the film will open in theaters and then digitally stream on Disney+, ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia.
The Sign: A Hint of Bluey’s Future
The Sign was the extended final episode of Bluey season three and had basically served as a dress rehearsal for the show moving into longer formats. As executive producer Daley Pearson explains, “It’s an experimental episode which takes major steps forward for characters.” The encouraging response to The Sign convinced Brumm to move on to a feature-length movie.
A Global Sensation
Broadcast in over 140 countries, Bluey is now a global phenomenon. It was the most watched series on Disney+ around the world and, in America, 2023’s most streamed series. As well as being a commercial success, the show has attracted critical acclaim too: winning multiple awards including Emmys and BAFTAs.
The series has also captured the hearts of whales like Lin-Manuel Miranda. “Even though it’s about dogs, you feel like there’s a camera in your house,” Miranda said.
Bluey’s Future is Bright!
The series creator may be leaving behind an increasingly successful phenomenon, but it will continue to bring happiness to families all over the world. Disney Entertainment co-chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden recognized Bluey as a “global phenomenon”, expressing their heartfelt appreciation for Brumm ’s creation which comes from a place that resonates with people everywhere.
